FAQ

How That One Actor works.

Straight answers about building your site, what it costs, and what you can and can't do. Still stuck? Email admin@thatoneactor.com.

Getting started

What is That One Actor?

A website builder made only for actors. You fill in your headshot, reel, credits, and reps, pick a look, and publish a fast, casting-ready site at yourname.thatoneactor.com. Search markup, a résumé PDF, and a share image are made for you.

How long does it take?

Most actors are live in about fifteen minutes. Start with your name and web address, add a headshot, then add a reel and credits whenever you're ready. You can publish again as often as you like.

Do I need to know anything about building websites?

No. You fill in fields and choose from options. Nothing you pick can break the layout, and every combination is tested on phones and computers.

Who is my site really for?

Casting directors, agents, and managers. Everything is built so they can see your face, your reel, and your credits in seconds. That's why we keep the tools focused instead of turning your site into a blank canvas.

Pricing and plans

What does it cost?

$39 a year, billed once. That's $3.25 a month, and it includes your own domain. You pay before you start building, and your site is live the moment you publish.

Why pay when my IMDb page is free?

Your IMDb page is free, but adding or changing the headshot on it takes an IMDbPro Premium membership, currently $149.99 a year. For $39 a year you get your own site with your headshots, reel, résumé PDF, a private contact form, visitor stats, a QR code, and your own address. Keep your IMDb too. Your site links to it.

What's a founder?

The first 100 actors join with an invite code and never pay. Founders keep their site, their custom domain, and every feature we add, free for life.

Can I cancel? Do you give refunds?

Cancel anytime under Plan, Manage billing in your editor. Your site stays up until the end of the year you paid for. Payments are non-refundable, including any unused part of a year.

What happens if my card fails at renewal?

We email you, and your site stays up for 7 days while you update your card. After that visitors see a short holding page. Nothing is deleted for 90 days, and paying brings it straight back.

Your site

What can I put on my site?
How much can I change the look?

Start from a designer template, then choose the palette, hero layout, fonts or your own typefaces, accent color, section order, photo framing and zoom, and how your reel, gallery, and contact form are laid out. Thousands of combinations, with new features added every month.

What's not allowed?

This is a professional platform for actors. No pretending to be someone else, no nudity or sexual content, no hate, harassment, or threats, nothing involving minors, nothing you don't have the rights to, and no spam. The full rules are in our Acceptable Use policy.

Can I have more than one site?

One site per person. You can change everything on it as often as you like.

Who owns my photos and content?

You do. We store it and show it on your site, and in the directory only if you turn that on. Only upload photos you have the right to use, and add your photographer's credit in the Headshots section.

Domains and search

What web address do I get?

Every site gets yourname.thatoneactor.com. thatoneactress.com works too and brings people to the same place.

Can I use my own domain, like yourname.com?

Yes, it's included. Point your domain here in two steps from the Custom domain panel in your editor, and we handle the security certificate. Your thatoneactor.com address keeps working either way.

Will casting find me on Google?

Your title, description, and structured data are generated from your credits automatically, so search engines understand who you are and what you've done. You never touch a meta tag.

What is the directory?

A browsable list of actors on the platform that casting and reps can search by location, union, and more. You choose whether to be listed, and you can switch it off anytime.

For casting directors

Is That One Actor free for casting?

Yes, and it stays free. Search the directory, open any actor's casting link and build a casting sheet without an account. A free casting account adds projects, saved searches, favorites and self-tape requests.

What is a casting link?

One page per actor made for casting: their intro video, reel, headshots, résumé, stats and representation in one place. Share it, print it, or open it from the directory. Every actor on the site has one.

How do I build a casting sheet?

Sign in to your casting account, then tap the heart on any actor in the directory and pick the role, like DAD or GIRL 6-8. Your sheet groups actors by role, and you can share it as a link, email it or print it. It saves to a project and follows you to any device. Anyone you share the link with can open it without an account.

How do I sign up and log in?

Go to Casting in the menu and tap Casting Director Registry, then Create account. Enter your name, company, title, work email and mobile. No password: you sign in with a one-time link or a 6-digit code sent by email or text.

Why do you verify casting accounts?

So actors only hear from real casting offices. We look up your office's published phone or email and call or write to confirm you work there, usually within one business day. You can build projects and save searches right away. Self-tapes, avails and presentations open once you're verified.

What's in my casting account?

Casting home keeps your projects and their roles, saved searches, favorite actors (sorted into Men, Women and Teen), your self-tape requests and a history of what you've done. It's the same on your laptop and your phone.

Can I search by type?

Yes. Actors tag themselves with up to 16 types, like Dad next door, Cop or detective or Quirky best friend. In the directory, pick one from Any type to see everyone tagged with it. It works with the other filters and in saved searches.

Can I get an email when new actors match a search?

Yes. In the directory, set your filters and click Save this search. Once a week we email you any new actors who match, with links to their casting pages. Turn the weekly email on or off for each search in Casting home.

Can I ask actors for self-tapes?

Yes. From a project or an actor's casting link, send your sides as a PDF or pasted text, add notes and a due date. Each actor gets an email and can record in their self-tape reader, which reads the other parts for them, or upload a take they shot. Takes land in Casting home to watch or download.

Can I check avails without calling everyone?

Yes. Open a project in Casting home and click Check avails. Add the dates, where, a note and an answer-by date, and one ping goes to every actor you pick. They answer Yes or No from the email with no login, and the answers fill in on your project as they arrive. We email you when everyone has answered.

How do I share actors with the director and producers?

Open a project and click Share with producers. You get one private link with each actor's headshot, facts, reels, résumé and any self-tapes you received. Viewers type their name once, then vote Yes, Maybe or No and comment, with no account. They don't see each other's votes, you see everything in Casting home, and you can switch the link off any time.

How long are self-tapes kept?

30 days after the due date. We email you 7 days and 1 day before they're deleted, so you can download any you want to keep. Actors can send up to 3 takes of up to 3 minutes each.

How do I reach an actor?

Through their site's contact form, a self-tape request, or their listed representation. Actors' emails and phone numbers stay private: we pass messages through, and you never see their contact details unless they choose to show them.

What if an actor has an agent or manager?

Their casting link and your projects show who represents them. When you send an avails check or a self-tape request, the actor's rep gets a copy for their files if the actor has listed their rep's email, so nobody is left out of the loop. You never see the rep's email.

Is there a limit on requests?

You can send self-tape requests to up to 40 actors a day, so actors' inboxes stay useful. Need more for a big open call? Email admin@thatoneactor.com.

Stats, privacy, and your account

Do I get a QR code?

Yes. Every site has its own QR code you can download from your editor. Put it on the back of your headshot, a business card, or a postcard so people land right on your site.

Can I see who's visiting my site?

Yes. Your editor shows visits, where they came from, which links and clips people clicked, and a weekly email summary. Your own visits aren't counted, and we don't use advertising trackers or cookies to count.

Is my email or phone number shown on my site?

No, unless you turn it on. Messages from your contact form are relayed to your inbox, so your address stays private. Your mobile number is only used to text you login codes.

Can I get a text when casting asks for a self-tape?

Yes. Confirm your mobile in your editor (tap your initials, then Account and privacy), then switch on Text me about casting requests. You get a short text with the email whenever casting asks for a tape or checks your avails. Reply STOP any time.

How do I log in?

No password. We email you a 6-digit code, or text it if you added a mobile number. Your private edit link works too, so keep it to yourself.

I have an idea for a feature. Who do I tell?

Us. We add new features every month, and a lot of them come from actors. Email admin@thatoneactor.com.

How do I delete my site?

Use Remove my site in your account settings, or email us. We remove your site, photos, and personal details within 7 days, and backups age out within 30 days.
